Hello Travellers,

A genre brief this week 🙂

What is Gaslamp Fantasy?

Gaslamp fantasy is a sub-genre of fantasy and historical fiction. It is very similar to steampunk, taking away the sci-fi element of steam powered engineering and inserting the fantasy element of magic.

It is generally set in the Victorian or Edwardian era, and the social themes that Steampunk utilise are the same themes Gaslamp utilises. Character-wise, Gaslamp offers primary points of view on the psychics and spiritualism, where steampunk showcases scientists and engineers; they both involve adventure.
